Our Schools & Colleges

The nine school districts of Livingston County emphasize excellence and innovation consistently exceeding state standards. Schools are well equipped with labs, computer centers and recreational facilities and offer complete academic and specialized enrichment programs such as Odyssey of the Mind, Project Read and various gifted and talented programs.

Special programs and activities such as DARE, Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD) and handicapped and special education recognize special needs and address them with care and prevention. The county's schools offer small classes with individual attention and complete on-site libraries and instructional labs. In addition to school libraries, there are eight member libraries of the Livingston County Library System. All schools are active in numerous Section Five sporting competitions where sporting teamwork and maturity skills are gained.

The State University of New York at Geneseo has been an important part of the fabric of Livingston County since its founding in 1871. With an enrollment of 5,200 full time students, SUNY Geneseo offers 48 undergraduate, 6 masters, and 19 interdisciplinary degree programs located on a 220 acre campus.

The College has 350 faculty and is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools American Chemical Society, American Speech and Hearing Association, the Council on Education and the New York State Board of Regents. The college’s libraries house over one million books, periodicals and documents and is a designated regional depository for publications of the United States and New York State.

Genesee Community College (GCC) serves Western New York’s Genesee Region. The college offers state of the art learning centers at two locations in Livingston County, Genesee Community College at Lakeville and Genesee Community College at Dansville. Many classes are offered at these Centers each semester providing exceptional education opportunities and convenience for local residents of Livingston County.

The College offers two year Career Programs, Transfer Programs and Certificate Programs (1 year) in over fifty different curriculums including accounting, business, computer information systems, computer drafting, entrepreneurship, general studies, gerontology, human services, graphics, hospitality management, liberal arts, medical assistant, nursing, occupational and physical therapy, paralegal, retail management, sales, customer service, travel and tourism, and web development. Many of these degree programs directly support the business and employment needs of our region.
