Our Communities

Avon (pdf, 376k)
Avon is fortunate to have many public parks and the rich Genesee Valley soil has continued throughout time to support a large dairy industry and horse farms. Through its varied history and into the twenty-first century, Avon has maintained a healthy balance of residential, commercial and industrial growth while retaining the advantage of its small town character.

Dansville (pdf, 286k)
Nestled deep within the heart of the Genesee Valley where the Seneca Nation of the Iroquois Confederacy once laid claim to the land, Dansville offers a unique balance of rural beauty and a thriving business community. Dansville is surrounded by fertile farmland, rolling wooded hillsides, lakes, streams and is adjacent to the southern part of Livingston County.

Geneseo (pdf, 348k)
Upon arrival in the lovely Town of Geneseo, especially for the first time, one never fails to note the beauty of the surrounding Genesee Valley. The name Geneseo comes from the Seneca word, "Gen-nis-he-yo", which means "beautiful valley." Agriculture and education, along with our status as county seat of Livingston County, have led to decades of progressive and yet controlled growth. Geneseo is truly the gem of the Genesee Valley.

York/Leicester (pdf, 376k)
York was formed from Caledonia and Leicester March 26, 1819. A part of Covington was annexed in 1823. The name of the town was derived from Hon. Joseph York, Member of Assembly from St. Lawrence County, who as chairman of the committee, had favorably reported the bill for the formation of the town. The Town of Leicester was established in 1802 in Genesee County and annexed into Livingston County in 1821.
